Federation Bio was founded by two leading academics in the microbiome field

(Stanford Professors Michael Fischbach and Dylan Dodd) as well as Venrock, one

of the leading venture capital funds in the United States.

Description of Role

We are currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated microbiologist with

a proven track record and passion for culturing the “unculturable.” In this role, you

will be responsible for building and curating a proprietary strain database for

Federation Bio, and for discovering novel microbes with untapped metabolic and

enzymatic potential. The perfect candidate will have experience enriching for

and isolating rare human commensals from complex consortia. Additionally, the

ideal candidate would have experience culturing obligate anaerobic bacteria,

working with complex, undefined microbial consortia, and identifying mutualistic

microbe/microbe and host/microbe interactions. We are looking for a candidate

with good hands, a good attitude, and the ability to attain a high degree of

independence in a fast-paced and dynamic research environment. You will be

expected to be a flexible, adaptable, and intellectually rigorous team member

and you will play a critical role in the design and development of microbiome

therapeutics at the absolute forefront of the field.
